THE ARCHITECT OF DETROIT Albert Kahn

Albert Kahn was the foremost American industrial architect of his day. He is sometimes called the architect of Detroit. In the late 1920s, celebrated architect Albert Kahn was retained to design the warm and inviting English Tudor-style clubhouse. Although it is modeled after the Country Club of Detroit, the clubhouse, which opened in 1928, exhibits a fairy tale charm and an inspiring uniqueness. Kahn filled its warm red brick walls and turrets with fieldstones taken from the property. The slate roof comprises a rich mixture of greens, grays and purples. Even after several additions and renovations, the clubhouse retains its timeless, classic look.

About Donald Ross

The Franklin Hills golf course, designed in 1927 by the legendary architect Donald Ross, is hailed as one of the few remaining true Donald Ross courses; it is a hidden gem.

The trademarks of a Ross design are evident at Franklin Hills. His effortless designs use the existing natural landscape to challenge golfers of all skill levels. His greens invite run – up shots but will give the overly bold golfer fits with trouble over the greens. Accurate iron play, precise handling of the short game and consistent putting are part of the Ross test.

Today the course annually receives recognition in many of the golf publications as one of Ross' best works not only in Michigan but also the United States.
